Vapor Trailers Launches New Project: Donated Trailer Gets a Racing Makeover

The Vapor Trailers Car Club has officially kicked off an exciting new project that will add a valuable asset to the team’s operations: a dedicated trailer for transporting the club’s dragster. The trailer, generously donated by long-time club member Ike Smith, is already in excellent condition and will serve as the perfect foundation for a custom-built hauler.

Solid Foundation

Measuring approximately 24 feet in length, the trailer comes equipped with surge brakes on the front axle, providing a solid baseline for safely towing precious cargo. Also included in the donation were two 12-foot ramps, which—while slightly narrow—are long enough to prevent the dragster from high-centering during loading.

During the club’s first planning session, members carefully evaluated the trailer’s approach angle to determine how much slope the dragster could handle without dragging the frame or becoming high-centered. The initial findings were promising, and plans are now moving forward.

Decking Decisions

To prepare the trailer for regular use, the team agreed to plank the deck with 2” x 12” x 16’ boards, offering the strength and durability needed to support the dragster’s weight. Once the modifications are complete, the trailer will provide a solid and reliable surface for safe loading and transport.

Next Steps: Modifications and Improvements

While the trailer is in great shape, a few upgrades and maintenance items are on the list:

  • Ramp Modifications: The existing ramps will be reinforced and slightly modified to improve stability and safety during loading.

  • Rear Bracket Attachment: A custom attachment bracket will be fabricated and installed at the rear of the trailer to secure the ramps during use and transport.

  • Tire Replacement: The current tires are 10 years old and will be replaced as a precautionary measure.

  • Lighting and Wiring: All lighting and electrical wiring came with the trailer but will be installed after fabrication and structural modifications are complete.

  • Winch and Storage: A front-mounted winch is planned to assist with loading the dragster, along with the installation of a toolbox for storing essential supplies. There is ample space at the front of the trailer to accommodate these additions.

  • Registration: The trailer’s pink slip will be transferred into the Vapor Trailers Car Club’s name to finalize the paperwork and ensure proper legal ownership.

Community and Gratitude

This project wouldn’t be possible without the generous donation from club member Ike Smith, whose support continues to make a lasting impact on the club. Projects like these highlight the strong sense of community and teamwork that keep Vapor Trailers thriving.

Stay tuned for updates as the build progresses. From fabrication to paint and everything in between, the club is rolling full speed ahead to turn this trailer into a custom hauler worthy of the Vapor Trailers name.
